Supple Series hosts Scottish folk singer Ed Miller

SAN MARCOS—Scottish folk singer Ed Miller brings his popular Celtic sound to Texas State University-San Marcos Friday, April 29, for a 7:30 p.m. performance in the Music Building Recital Hall.
The show is a Bonus Event of the Jerry and Cathy Supple Folk Music Series, with free admission and open to the general public.
A product of the 1960s folk revival in Scotland, Miller has been hailed as one of the best singers to emerge from the movement, “a guitar-wielding folkie who wins his audiences over with a sweet but powerful voice, a great ear for material, and equal doses of populist politics and wry humor” (Steve Winick, The Music Hound). A performer who has learned his craft in musical venues on both sides of the Atlantic, Miller is a folklorist who brings his love of Scotland to every performance.
His latest release, Generations of Change, collects for the first time songs from early in his career, previously available only on LP or cassette. Other albums available from Miller include Lowlander, Many’s the Fine Tale, The Edinburgh Rambler and Live at the Cactus Cafe.
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Miller now makes his home in Austin, where he earned his Ph.D. in folklore from the University of Texas in 1981. , Texas, is He moved to the United States in 1968 to complete his graduate work in Geography, and later Folklore, at the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to his singing career, Miller is co-host of KUT-FM's Folkways show (90.5 FM Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), one of Austin’s most popular and longest-running live music shows, which can be heard over the Web on RealAudio/RealPlayer at kut.org.
