The Opera Workshop presents Gianni Schicchi
Date of Release: 04/14/2005
SAN MARCOS—The Opera Workshop will present Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi 8 p.m. April 23 and 6 p.m. April 24 at the University Performing Arts and Conference Center at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Guest stage director Cheryl Parrish has teamed with Director of Opera Cina Crisara to create a comical and animated opera about the Donati family, standing vigil over a dying relative. Amid the weeping and wailing, there is substantial interest in the last will and testament. In the title role of the clever Schicchi, graduate student Jeremiah Drake offers a rich baritone voice as he schemes to solve the family’s inheritance issues. Other featured performers include Jonathon Subia in the role of Rinuccio, a young man whose marriage to Lauretta (Megan Eyden and Christin Toerner) depends on the favorable contents of the will. Additional singers in the cast include Casey Ford, Jason Slayden, Liz Schwab, Kiwon Kwon, Will Hearn, Amanda Shelton, David Aguilar, Jon-Michael Wallace and Ed Hines.
Soprano Cheryl Parrish has performed operas around the world and is a valued member of the Texas State faculty. This is the seventh opera presentation in two years for Crisara.
Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors and are available at the door. For more information, please call (512) 245-3046.
