The second-most produced play of 2000-2004, The Laramie Project is based on the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay student at the University of Wyoming.
Through interviews with Laramie residents, Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Project have prepared a unique piece that examines a town’s ability to cope during the aftermath of such an act of brutality. The production invites audiences around the world to contemplate the role of hate, homosexuality, the media and education in our own societies.
