National Geographic photographer to deliver Grosvenor Lecture
SAN MARCOS – Sam Abell, photographer-in-residence with the National Geographic Society, will deliver the seventh annual Gilbert Grosvenor Distinguished Lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Texas State University-San Marcos.
The lecture will begin at 8 p.m. in Room 4-16.1 of the LBJ Memorial Student Center on the Texas State campus.
Abell’s lecture will feature the photographic work he did for the National Geographic publication Lewis & Clark: Voyage of Discovery.
Abell has worked for the National Geographic Society since 1970, providing photography for more than 20 articles on cultural and wilderness subjects for National Geographic magazine and several books. He has lectured on photography and exhibited his work to audiences around the world. A book of his best personal and professional work, Sam Abell: The Photographic Life, was published in 2002.
The Grosvenor Distinguished Lecture is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, and seating preference will be give to those who obtain free lecture tickets in advance.
