Texas State announces summer band camps
SAN MARCOS – The Department of Bands at Texas State University-San Marcos is preparing for three weeks of summer band camps for junior high school and high school students.
The Junior High School Concert Band Camp will be held from June 6-11 and the High School Concert Band Camp will be held from June 13-18. Each camp will feature two concert bands, a jazz ensemble, salsa band, mariachi ensemble and courses including music theory, rhythm techniques and music appreciation. Featured conductors will include John Stansberry, Gerald Babbitt, Charles Aguillon, David Gunn, Freddie Mendoza, John Lopez and Marcos Garcia. Students may also opt to enroll in private lessons with camp faculty for a small fee. The cost for these camps is $375 for an on-campus resident and $300 for a non-resident camper.
The Texas State Marching Camp will be held from June 20-24. This week features three separate camps including colorguard, drumline and a camp for drum majors. Bobcat Marching Band Colorguard Coordinator Brandy DuBose will lead the colorguard component. Professor John Lopez will lead the drumline camp and the George Parks Drum Major Academy, led by Joe Munoz, will instruct the drum majors. The cost for this week is $325 for on-campus residents and $275 for non-resident campers.
