Date released: 03/02/04

SAN MARCOS – The Texas State University System Board of Regents has approved the renaming of several streets on the Texas State University-San Marcos campus, and the naming of others that were previously unnamed.

Over the years, Texas State has demolished five buildings named for respected faculty members. The names of those faculty members – H.E. Speck, J. Lloyd Read, Alma Leuders, Gates Thomas and James R. Buckner -- were chosen as street names to demonstrate the university’s commitment to honoring its past.

The Medina Hall access road was renamed Speck Street. The 800 block of Moore Street was renamed Read Street. Llano Court was renamed Lueders Court. The road behind the Health Science Center was named Thomas Street. The street in front of the cogeneration power plant was named Buckner Street.

In addition, the street next to the LBJ Student Center parking garage was named Gaillardia Lane, Smith Drive was renamed Russell Circle and the street next to the business building parking garage was named Talbot Street.
