Texas State, Angelo State sign guaranteed admission agreement

Date released: 03/03/04

SAN MARCOS – Applicants who don’t meet admission requirements to Texas State University-San Marcos now have another option that can still lead to a Texas State diploma.

A Guaranteed Admission Program recently developed between Texas State and Angelo State University in San Angelo will allow some students who are not initially admitted to Texas State to attend Angelo State for a year and receive guaranteed admission to Texas State the next year if they complete certain academic requirements.

“As Texas State is growing, we’re having to turn more students away. We want to send the message that there is another option available for some students at another four-year university, and it’s in the Texas State University System,” said Christie Kangas, Texas State director of admissions.

Students who fail to meet Texas State’s admission requirements but who meet Angelo State’s will be offered the opportunity to participate in the Guaranteed Admission Program. Those students entering the program will be guaranteed admission to Texas State as sophomores if, during their freshman year at Angelo State, they successfully complete 30 semester credit hours of proscribed courses with a grade point average of at least 2.25.

“We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to students we believe have the ability to succeed at Texas State,” said Kangas.
