Students gear up for Trio Bowl
SAN MARCOS – High school students from six TRIO programs along the I-35 corridor will participate in the Sixth Annual TRIO Bowl at Texas State University-San Marcos Saturday, Feb. 28.
Students from Upward Bound and Talent Search programs hosted by Texas State, Palo Alto College, Huston-Tillotson College and Ed Plus, Inc., of San Antonio will compete for the TRIO Bowl trophy. Events include impromptu speaking, group improvisation, maps/charts/graphs, TRIO American Idol, ready writing, science, math, vocabulary, spelling, Quiz Bowl and basketball.
Since 1965, TRIO pre-college and college programs have provided services to more than 10.5 million Americans. Though the original trio of programs has now expanded over the years to include eight, the programs are still known collectively as “TRIO.”
TRIO programs are designed to identify promising students, prepare them to do college level work and provide support services to students once they reach a college or university campus. Texas State hosts two talent search programs, one Upward Bound and one student support services program. Collectively, Texas State programs serve more than 1,800 students.
