“Protecting the Rio Grande” water quality workshop scheduled

SAN MARCOS – A one-day, intensive workshop to help answer critical questions about the current and future state of the Rio Grande will be held Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City of Laredo Public Works Service Center.

The workshop is sponsored by the City of Laredo, the International Boundary and Water Commission, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Texas Watch. In addition to water quality issues, the forum will examine the relationship between water quality and water quantity, the human health issues related to the river and the impact of invasive species.

Established in 1991, Texas Watch is a network of trained volunteers and supportive partners working together to gather information about the natural resources of Texas and to ensure the information is available to all Texans. It is administered through a cooperative partnership between Texas State University-San Marcos, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Individuals, teachers, businesses and government representatives are invited to attend. The Laredo Public Works Service Center is located at 5512 Thomas Avenue.
