Bobcat Band selected to perform in Monterrey, Mexico
SAN MARCOS — The Bobcat Marching Band from Texas State University-San Marcos will take its show on the road Oct. 22, when it travels to Monterrey, Mexico, to perform during a soccer game between the UANL Tigres and the Monterrey Rayados.
The Bobcat Band is the first American marching band to perform at a Monterrey sporting event. The Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma corporation is covering all of the band’s expenses for this trip.
“ The band is overly excited about this trip for many reasons,” said Rod Schueller, interim director of athletic bands. “Although they will be expected to make up all missed class work, it is a great performance opportunity and a chance to see a wonderful major city in Mexico during one of the trying times of the semester. Many students are bogged down with midterms and projects and this may be a nice break.”
The band will depart from the Texas State campus on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 21 and return by early afternoon Thursday, Oct. 23. Although the trip is optional for band members, approximately 145 of the 180 members will make the journey to Monterrey. A crowd in excess of 40,000 fans is expected for the contest, and the match will be televised nationally throughout Mexico.
