Texas State presents Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit

Date of release: 10/23/03

SAN MARCOS —The Texas State Department of Theatre and Dance presents Noel Coward’s supernatural farce, Blithe Spirit, Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Just in time for Halloween, Shelly Miller helms this graduate student final directing project. One of the most popular comedies ever produced, Blithe Spirit features Charles, a happily married man who conducts a séance for a new novel he is working on. Chaos ensues when his first wife--the deceased Elvira--responds to the séance. To compound matters, only Charles can see Elvira’s ghost, much to current-wife Ruth’s chagrin.

Written by Coward over the span of five days in war-torn, 1941 Britain, the wit and irreverence of Blithe Spirit remain as fresh today as they were when first put to paper.

Blithe Spirit will be presented in the Studio Theater at the Texas State Theatre Center. Admission prices are $8 for the general public, $5 for students. For further information, contact the Texas State Box Office at (512) 245-2204.
