Joseph Stuessy named School of Music Director

SAN MARCOS — C. Joseph Stuessy, Jr., Ph.D., has been named director of the Texas State University-San Marcos School of Music.
Stuessy joins Texas State from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he served as director of the Division of Music since 1992. While at UTSA, he developed majors in music marketing, piano pedagogy and conducting. He also created successful opera and orchestra programs at the university. Stuessy earned his bachelor of music degree from Southern Methodist University in 1965, majoring in theory and composition with principal instrument of piano. He earned his master of arts and doctorate from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, New York, in 1967 and 1978, respectively. |

Stuessy has served as president of the Texas Association of Music Schools and is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers; the Texas Music Educators Association, Blue Key; Phi Kappa Lambda; and is a Golden Key Honorary.
