Rod Schueller named Director of Athletic Bands

SAN MARCOS — Rod Schueller, D.M.A., has been named director of athletic bands for the Texas State University-San Marcos School of Music.

Schueller comes to Texas State from Michigan State University where he served as a graduate teaching assistant and worked with the Spartan Marching Band and Spartan Brass. He earned his bachelor of music degree in trumpet and music education from the University of Iowa in 1994, his master of music degree in wind conducting from Indiana University 1997 and his doctor of musical arts from Michigan State this year.

Prior to his time at Michigan State, Schueller served as associate director of bands at Western Illinois University in charge of the Marching Leathernecks, Leatherneck Basketball Band and conductor of the Concert Band. He also served as assistant director of athletic bands at Northern Illinois University.

Schueller holds professional memberships with the National Band Association, the College Band Directors National Association, and honorary memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
