Texas State presents Living In Flood Alley symposium

SAN MARCOS – The Texas State University-San Marcos International Institute for Sustainable Water Resources and the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority will host Living in Flood Alley: Lessons to Learn, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, September 18, at the LBJ Student Center.

Floods are a major part of life in Texas today. In July 2002, South-Central Texas was hit by the third major flood in less than four years. Each flooding event resulted in lost lives and cost Texas counties, cities and citizens millions of dollars.

The Living in Flood Alley symposium brings together flood experts, professionals, decision-makers and citizens to examine recent flooding events and address ways to reduce losses from future major floods. A panel of representatives from governmental agencies, professional organizations, educational institutes and non-profit organizations will present and exhibit information on topics such as flood probability, flood liability, flood preparedness and response, flood affects and water quality issues.
