Grammy nominee to play SWT

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS —There are some beginning musicians who can’t even imagine recording more than five or six albums during their career. There are other veteran musicians who deserve a Grammy for simply hanging around for so long. One man trumps them all with music that does nothing more, but also nothing less, than paint a picture of America.

Five-time Grammy nominee John McCutcheon performs at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Recital Hall on the Southwest Texas State University campus.

McCutcheon’s original story-style folk songs may be accompanied by a number of different instruments, including the banjo, guitar, fiddle, autoharp and most notably, the hammer dulcimer.

His career includes 24 recordings and production work on more than 20 albums of other artists. But it is in his live performances that McCutcheon feels most at home. The past several years have seen him headline five different festivals in Australia, tour Nicaragua, perform in the first-ever children’s concert on TNN, write books, appear in videos and play with symphony orchestras.
