Ezekiel’s Horse garners more accolades

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Ezekiel’s Horse: Keith Carter Photographs, third in the award-winning Wittliff Gallery Series published by the University of Texas Press, has won another distinction. It was recently selected for inclusion in the Graphis Design Annual 2002.

Ezekiel’s Horse presents a distinguished series of images, whereby Carter turns his eye to the horse. These photographs, all part of the permanent collection of the Wittliff Gallery of Southwestern and Mexican Photography at SWT, were featured in a fall 2000 exhibition at the Wittliff Gallery and have subsequently traveled to other venues in the U.S.

Graphis is an international journal of visual communication and is touted as the premier magazine covering design and graphic communication worldwide. In addition to its magazine, Graphis publishes a series of annual and bi-annual books. According to the Graphis website, the Graphis Design Annual is its most popular annual.

Earlier this year, Ezekiel’s Horse was included in the American Institute of Graphic Arts Fifty Best Books of the year and was awarded the Mitchell A. Wilder Gold Citation for Excellence in Publication Design from the Texas Association of Museums.

“Each one of the four books published so far in the gallery series have won national awards for content and design,”said Connie Todd, curator of The Wittliff Gallery. “We’re very proud to have the support of SWT and the be able to represent the university with such a fine product.”

D.J. Stout and Nancy McMillen of Pentragram in Austin designed the Ezekiel’s Horse publication.
