SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The Counting Crows, a popular top 40 music group, will be the feature talent at Southwest Texas State University’s kickoff to the upcoming 2001-02 school year celebration, Rec Jam. The festivities will begin at SWT’s Sewell Park at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24. The general admission concert will then follow at 8:30 in Strahan Coliseum. The park events and concert will be open to the community, as well as all SWT students, faculty and staff.
Coordinated with many local San Marcos businesses, Rec Jam will introduce the San Marcos community and the Division of Student Affairs to incoming new SWT students and their returning classmates. All Sewell Park events will be free. Live music provided by Liquid Stereo Project and a D.J. spinning tunes will accent the carnival style games, booths, giveaways and other festivities.
Concert doors open at 8 p.m. for pre-sold ticket holders to access the open seating. SWT is providing free tickets to all incoming new freshman students who registered earlier that day for Paws Preview, the second half of New Student Orientation.
Concert tickets will be available to all others at San Marcos HEBs beginning July 24. Ticket prices are $10 with SWT ID and $15 without SWT ID, cash only. Credit card sales will be handled through UTTM and can be made by calling 512-477-6060.
In case of inclement weather, the decision for the Sewell Park festivities cancellation will occur at 2 p.m.; the concert will not be affected. For more information please contact the Department of Campus Recreation at 512-245-2392 or check out the web site at www.txstate.edu.
