SWT SIFE team receives national honors
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Students representing Southwest Texas State University’s Students in Free Enterprise team participated and ranked in the “Elite 8” in the 2001 SIFE USA National Exposition, sponsored by the Kansas City Business Community, May 13-15 in Missouri.
In April, SWT’s SIFE team was named regional champion at the Fort Worth SIFE Exposition and went on to compete against 150 teams, representing more than 2,000 students from around the country at the National Exposition.
Each team presented a 24-minute, multi-media summary of outreach projects in which students participated throughout the year. The students are judged on how well they teach others the principles of free enterprise through the projects they develop and complete during the year.
The SWT team also garnered second place in the Polsky Financial Investing Special Competition and the AT&T Best Use of Internet for K-12 Students Special Competition.
“We are so pleased to spread the message of free enterprise in Central Texas and around the world,” said Vicki West, co-advisor to SWT’s SIFE team and SWT marketing lecturer. “Also, our students benefit a great deal from their exposure to the corporate arena.”
