SWT announces faculty promotions and tenures
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Twenty-six faculty members at Southwest Texas State University have been promoted and 19 have been awarded tenure effective Sept. 1, 2001. The promotions and tenure actions were approved Friday, June 8, in Beaumont at the meeting of the Texas State University System Board of Regents.
Promoted from associate professor to professor (with academic department in parentheses) were Paul Barnes (biology), J. Karen Brown (social work), Roger Colombik (art and design), Eugene Curtin (mathematics), Jesus Frank de la Teja (history), Catherine Jaffe (modern languages), Gay James (health, physical education, recreation and dance), Priscilla Leder (English), Debra Monroe (English), C. Oren Renick (health administration), Brenda Scheuermann (curriculum and instruction) and Richard Warms (anthropology).
Promoted from assistant professor to associate professor were Janet Bezner (physical therapy), Brenda Boucher (physical therapy), David Byrum (curriculum and instruction), Heather Galloway (physics), Russell Hodges (educational administration and psychological services), Thomas Keller (mathematics), Audrey McKinney (philosophy), Jackie Moczygemba (health information management), Susan Morey (mathematics), Nancy Ramos-Machail (curriculum and instruction), Raul Rodriguez (music), Holly Shields (art and design), Dean Showalter (finance and economics) and Elizabeth Stephens (curriculum and instruction).
Granted tenure were Janet Bezner (physical therapy), Brenda Boucher (physical therapy), Verna Henson (criminal justice), Linda Homeyer (educational administration and psychological services), Thomas Keller (mathematics), Jackie Moczygemba (health information management), Susan Morey (mathematics), Claudia Nelson (English), James Polk (music), Raul Rodriguez (music), Holly Shields (art and design), Dean Showalter (finance and economics) and Elizabeth Stephens (curriculum and instruction).
Appointed to the SWT faculty with tenure were Steven Gordon, associate professor of educational administration and psychological services; Randall Osborne associate professor and chair of psychology; Walter Rast, associate professor of biology (effective June 1); Jovita Ross-Gordon, associate professor of educational administration and psychological services; Debbie Thorne, chair and associate professor of marketing (effective Aug. 15); and Quint Thurman, chair and professor of criminal justice.
