Journalist Shribman to deliver LBJ Lecture at SWT

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Shribman will deliver a public lecture at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Southwest Texas State University. The free lecture will take place in the teaching theater of the LBJ Student Center on the SWT campus.

Shribman’s lecture is the 24th installment of SWT’s Lyndon Baines Johnson Distinguished Lecture. The lecture series was created to honor SWT’s most famous alumnus and to fulfill a promise the former president made shortly before his death - to bring influential people to the San Marcos campus to meet with students, faculty and staff.

Shribman is assistant managing editor, columnist and Washington bureau chief of the Boston Globe. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in journalism in 1995 for his coverage of Washington and the American political scene. His column, National Perspective, is syndicated nationally, and he writes O Democracy, a regular political column that appears in Fortune magazine. He is also currently writing a book about Lyndon Johnson.

Shribman is a member of the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth University, a member of the Board of Visitors of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for the Social Sciences at Dartmouth and a member of the Board of the Hillel Society of American University in Washington. He is also a member of the editorial board of Dilemmas in American Politics, a series of scholarly monographs published by Westview Press.

Previous presenters of the LBJ Distinguished Lecture have included former President Gerald Ford, former FBI Director William Sessions, civil rights activist James Farmer and former U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley.
