7th Annual Regional Peer Education Conference

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Southwest Texas State University’s (SWT) Alcohol and Drug Resource Center will host approximately 250 to 300 students from colleges and universities around the Southwest at the Annual Regional Peer Education Conference.

For the second time in three years, SWT will welcome students from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Registration for this year’s conference will begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 29 on the 3rd floor of the LBJ Student Center and will continue on Friday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. SWT students and conference participants are invited to attend the Student Affairs Alcohol and Drug Team sponsored dance, “Bobcat Inferno 2001,” from 8 to 11 p.m. in the LBJSC Ballroom on Thursday evening. Student organizations and residence halls have been invited to this event.

Luoluo Hong, assistant vice president of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, is this year’s keynote speaker. With more than thirteen years of experience as an educator, Hong has conducted more than 1,200 presentations across the country. She received her BA in Psychology from Amherst College, a Masters in Public Health from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership & Research from Louisiana State University (LSU), where she also served as the Director of Wellness Education & Outreach Services and Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. Hong will also present a Staff Development Program from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 30, JCK 1100.

Students from peer education programs around the region as well as Hays County Family Planning will present during the conference. Approximately 30 colleges and universities in the region will have peer education groups and their advisors in attendance.
