SWT records highest spring enrollment
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Officials at Southwest Texas State University have reported an enrollment of 21,032 students for the 2001 spring semester, the highest spring enrollment in university history. The spring 2001 enrollment surpasses the previous enrollment high of 20,205 in Spring 2000.
SWT enrolled 827 more students this semester than last spring, an increase of 4.1 percent. The number of minority students increased by 163 students, an increase of 3.1 percent. Enrollment of African-American undergraduates increased 4.8 percent and Hispanic undergraduate enrollment increased 3.9 percent.
SWT students registered for 236,537 semester credit hours this spring, an increase of 7,893 or 3.3 percent over the same period last year. For the 2001 spring semester, the new freshman enrollment increased by 13 percent from the previous spring. Transfer enrollment increased 20.6 percent from Spring 2000. Of the SWT student body, about 56 percent are female and 44 percent are male.
