Chahin named SWT College of Applied Arts dean

Dr. Jaime Chahin named dean of SWT’s College of Applied Arts | SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — T. Jaime Chahin, acting dean of Southwest Texas State University’s College of Applied Arts, was named dean of the college earlier this month. Chahin has served the College of Applied Arts as acting dean since September 1999, and according to Robert Gratz, vice president for academic affairs, has provided outstanding leadership to the college. In addition to his dean appointment, Chahin will assume the title of special assistant to the president for strategic initiatives. In this position, he is responsible for identifying individuals and organizations with interest in SWT’s strategic initiatives and for linking those parties with appropriate individuals at SWT. Chahin has been a member of the SWT family since 1988. He began as a faculty member in the Department of Social Work and currently chairs the Master of Social Work Graduate Admissions Committee. He also worked for eight years as associate vice president for human resources and university affairs. |
Chahin recently served as executive producer for the film “Forgotten Americans,” which chronicles the lives of people in unincorporated border towns called colonias. The film won first place in the Contemporary Social Issues category at the Annual Media Awards sponsored by the National Council on Family Relations.
Chahin received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&I University and his master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. He previously taught at Pan American University-Brownsville and the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs. He has served in administrative positions at Texas Southmost College and the Texas Legislature’s Select Committee for Higher Education
