McMurray, new SWT athletic development officer
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Tim McMurray, formerly with Lamar University in Beaumont, has joined the Southwest Texas State University staff as development officer for athletics.
McMurray graduated from Lamar University in 1992 with a bachelor of arts in communication. He then served that university as associate sports information director, becoming the assistant athletic director for development in 1996. He is currently completing requirements of the 2000-2001 Executive Program of the Sports Management Institute.
As assistant athletic director for development at Lamar, McMurray increased corporate sponsorship dollars by a total of 130 percent and increased private donations by more than 200 percent over a three-year period.
His experience provides solid background in athletic development and enhancement, said Carroll Wiley, SWT associate vice president of university advancement.
"We are looking forward to his continued success at Southwest Texas and believe his expertise will benefit SWT athletics as it forges on to establishing a Division I-A football program and comprehensively, a greater athletic program," Wiley said.
