FEF bestows Director’s Award to SWT’s Habingreither
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF), a conglomerate of cast metals industries, has conferred the American Foundry Society’s Director’s Award on Robert Habingreither, chair of the Technology Department at Southwest Texas State University.
The $3,000 cash award, issued during FEF’s annual conference Nov. 9-11 in Chicago, recognizes a faculty member from a participating institution who has made a significant contribution to the cast metals industry through his/her teaching and research.
“I was very surprised to have received the award,” Habingreither said. “It is such an honor to be recognized by professionals within the field of cast metals.”
SWT’s Technology Department has made notable waves in the technology industry as it continues to grow in a region known for its increasing demand for qualified high-tech professionals. In an effort to expand the program and provide an innovative atmosphere and contemporary research facilities, the department is set to move its accommodations, along with the Physics and Art departments, to an improved building in the next few years as it continues to develop its degree programs.
Approximately 350 majors and 100 minors take part in SWT’s technology program, and this fall, the department began offering courses in its new manufacturing engineering degree program, where students can focus on either general manufacturing or high-tech/semiconductor manufacturing.
