SWT Strutters lead Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The famed 68-member precision dance team from Southwest Texas State University, the Strutters, will lead the nationally televised Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Nov. 23.

Before an estimated 60 million viewers, SWT’s Strutters will unveil the parade as it winds its way through the streets of New York City. The students will perform the opening dance and lead the parade and later perform a kick routine to a remix of Bonanza in Herald Square in front of NBC cameras.

"We are so proud to bring national recognition to Southwest Texas State University - not just the Strutters," said Susan Angell, director of the Strutters. "Strutters have traveled all over the world and performed for so many different cultures, but it is thrilling to have the opportunity to showcase SWT here at ‘home.’"

In addition to their televised appearance, the Strutters will take a dance class with one of the nation’s leading choreographers, Frank Hatchett, owner of New York City’s Broadway Dance Center.

Founded in 1960, the Strutter organization was the first dance team organized on a major university campus in America and has become known for the showmanship and perfection of its performances. Strutters have appeared in two U.S. presidential inaugurations and have represented Texas and America throughout 17 countries and four continents.
