Golden Key International Honor Society selects SWT student as rep

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Heather Hageman, Southwest Texas State University education senior and San Marcos native, has been chosen by an international honor society to represent students nationwide.

She was chosen as the International Golden Key National Honor Society’s Council Student Representative (CSR) for the 2000-2001 school year. Hageman, who is also an SWT Mitte Scholar, was recently named to her new post during the society’s international convention Aug. 3-6 in Los Angeles.

Hageman’s role as the CSR includes serving as a member on the Golden Key Council, which governs and guides the organization. Three chapter advisors and one student comprise the council. In addition to her council duties, Hageman will interact with individual student representatives from the 15 regions in Golden Key to introduce the concerns and needs of the students to the council for consideration.

From the international pool of applicants, the former council selected three finalists. The Regional Student Representative (RSR) Corps, a group of 17 university students from around the globe, interviewed the finalists and made the final selection of the new CSR.

One RSR said, “When we looked at the three candidates, Heather simply had the qualities and qualifications we needed in the person we will be turning to when our regional chapters and students have concerns.”

Hageman expressed enthusiasm at her recent appointment.

“Membership in Golden Key has given me incredible insight into leadership, service and dedication,” Hageman said. “As members we are offered countless opportunities to witness and facilitate success internationally. It’s definitely not just about recognition; it’s about service-giving back--and building friendships that will last a lifetime. This opportunity is indeed an honor, a privilege and a blessing.”
