Celebs and community mingle on and off the green
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Fun, frolicking and festivities is on the menu for this year’s SWT Celebrity Golf Classic weekend. From fine dining to laughing it up with celebrities, San Marcos residents can expect a weekend of exciting events.
The Celebrity Comedy Scramble, which is open to the public, kicks off the weekend as the scramble puts celebrity golfers in a variety of difficult and improbable golf situations that require athletic and comedic improvisation. The Scramble begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at the SWT Golf Course at Aquarena.
That evening, SWT will host the annual Golf Classic Gala beginning at 6 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center.
From former Dallas Cowboy and NFL Hall of Famer Mel Renfro to actor Steve Guttenberg, SWT is host to a medley of actors, actresses and athletes at this year’s gala.
Tickets are $45 per person. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30.
Entertainment begins at 7:30 with the music of Ann Cusak and the comedy of Brant Von Hoffman and Ron White.
SWT’s own artist-in-residence, G.W. Bailey, will emcee the evening with friends from the Police Academy movie series, including Lance Kinsey (Proctor), David Graf (Tackleberry) and Steve Guttenberg (Mahoney).
A live auction, benefiting SWT Celebrity Classic scholarships, will follow the entertainment. Live-auction items include a trip to the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, a CD collection of all of George Strait’s recordings. A silent auction will be held throughout the gala, featuring among many other items, more than $1,000 worth of shopping sprees from Prime Outlet in San Marcos and autographed memorabilia from celebrities.
