National Geographic editor to speak at SWT

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — William L. “Bill” Allen, editor of National Geographic magazine, will deliver a public lecture and multi-media presentation Monday, April 17, at Southwest Texas State University.

Allen’s presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the teaching theatre of the LBJ Student Center on the SWT campus. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, and those planning to attend must have tickets. Allen will spend the day at SWT, speaking with various student groups before attending a dinner in his honor prior to his lecture.

Allen became the eighth full-time editor of National Geographic in January 1995, capping 25 years of service with the National Geographic Society. In his various editorial positions, Allen has written, photographed or served as picture editor for scores of books, educational products and articles for World and National Geographic magazines.

Allen currently serves on the boards of the National Geographic Society, the National Geographic Education Foundation, the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, the Institute of Nautical Archaeology and the World Wildlife Fund. He is also a member of the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C.

He is a native of Tyler, Texas, and is a graduate of Louisiana State University.
