SWT invites applicants to 11th Honors Summer Math Camp
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Southwest Texas State University invites applications for its 11th annual Honors Summer Math Camp to be held June 18-July 29 on the SWT campus.
The camp is for outstanding high school students who are excited about doing mathematics. The goals are to stimulate an interest in mathematics and to provide challenging courses in a unique learning environment.
To be eligible, students must have completed the ninth, 10th or 11th grade and submit an application to SWT before April 30.
Students will take courses in elementary number theory with a Mathematica software computer lab. Students will also take part in an honors seminar discussing ethics, careers and opportunities available at a university.
Students will be assigned a faculty mentor who will help devise a school-year project to enable students to continue working on ideas studied during the summer. Students will all be provided a copy of Mathematica software.
The cost of the program is $1,200, which covers tuition, room, board, books, supplies and activities. Scholarships are available based on need. Sponsors for scholarships include the National Science Foundation, the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, National Instruments, the Rockwell Fund Inc., the RGK Foundation, Southwestern Bell Communications and the SWT Honors Math Camp endowment.
All SWT Honors Summer Math Camp participants are automatically admitted to the SWT Honors Program if they choose to attend SWT.
