SWT reports highest spring enrollment ever

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Officials at Southwest Texas State University have reported an enrollment of 20,205 for the 2000 spring semester, the highest spring enrollment in university history.

SWT enrolled 112 more students than last spring, an increase of 0.6 percent. The previous high spring enrollment occurred in 1992 when the university enrolled 20,125 students.

The success of the North Austin/Williamson County Multi-Institution Teaching Center (MITC) has helped boost SWT’s enrollment. Enrollment in SWT classes at the MITC this spring is 751 students, an increase of 75 percent over the previous spring semester.

The MITC is a cooperative effort of SWT, Austin Community College, St. Edward’s University, Concordia University at Austin and Temple College at Taylor. It offers programs and coursework at several locations in North Austin.

“We are very encouraged by our enrollment figures,” said Leellen Brigman, associate vice president of student affairs at SWT and director of enrollment management. “The enrollment number is excellent, and we’re also pleased with the quality of the students choosing to come to SWT. We are attracting students who are well prepared to succeed in higher education.”
