First School Safety Summit scheduled for November
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Methods to promote safety and reduce violence in schools will be the focus of the first Texas School Safety Summit Nov. 10-12 in Austin.
The summit is hosted by the Texas School Safety Center of the Southwest Texas State University College of Education. It will be held at Austin’s Red Lion Hotel.
During the summit, speakers will address critical issues such as school security, anger management, bullying, gang activity, indicators of violent behavior, crisis management planning, conflict resolution, parental guidelines and other key topics. The latest school safety equipment will also be displayed.
The summit is designed for educators, law enforcement personnel, parents, community leaders, clergy, social services personnel, counselors and students.
Registration is $125 per person or $100 per person for teams of two or more. The cost covers admission to all sessions, a reception, luncheon and school safety materials. Registrants should include a letter with their name, address, telephone number and affiliation.
The Red Lion Hotel and Southwest Airlines are offering discounted rates for the conference.
The Texas School Safety Center was established at SWT last May through a grant from the Governor’s Office. Its goals are to reduce youth violence and promote safety in schools.
