SWT to host first U.S. team at Global Vision conference

Date of release: 10/10/99

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Southwest Texas State University’s Management and Marketing Department is gearing up to lead a group of students to the Asia-Pacific Americas Forum on Youth in May 2000, sponsored by Global Vision-Canada, a non-profit international training center.

SWT-TEAM TEXAS 2000 will be the first United States team to attend this international conference. Global Vision-Canada offers international marketing training for students around the world. Teams of students representing various participating countries will join the conference to share ideas and learn about international marketing skills.

Several members from each country’s team are chosen at the end of the conference to participate in a three-week global marketing experience. The chosen students will have the opportunity to travel with business and government leaders to a host country and exchange trade knowledge, learn essential business skills and network with business leaders.

A marketing class will be established in the Spring of 2000 at SWT to train a select number of students interested in attending the conference. Each of the students on the SWT Team will be required to garner support from one or more Central Texas businesses.

These supporters will sponsor a student’s travel and other expenses for attending the conference.

Terry Clifford, president of Global Vision-Canada, will give a public lecture to all interested students, faculty and business professionals at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Alkek Teaching Theater in the Alkek Library at SWT.

Clifford will discuss NAFTA from the Canadian perspective and its effect on international business. He will also discuss international business skills necessary for the global marketplace, as well as essential qualifications to participate in the Asia-Pacific Americas Forum on Youth.
