National board accredits SWT computer science program
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The Department of Computer Science at Southwest Texas State University has been accredited by the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board (CSAB).
The accreditation became effective at the start of the current semester. SWT becomes one of 10 schools in Texas and 156 nationwide to receive CSAB accreditation.
CSAB is the only accrediting agency in the United States for academic departments of computer science. It was established to provide accreditation of postsecondary baccalaureate programs that prepare students to enter computing sciences professions.
CSAB is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the Association of Specialized Professional Accreditors.
Enrollment in the SWT Department of Computer Science has risen nearly 40 percent in the past two years. Graduate enrollment in the department has risen by about one third in the same period. The department currently enrolls more than 700 students in its bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
