Sewell Park open to visitors
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Southwest Texas State University will again welcome visitors to Sewell Park for the annual Summerfest celebration on July 3 and will extend the invitation to visitors through the time needed to repair the Spring Lake Dam.
The Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) required SWT to close the river area immediately beneath the dam earlier in the summer because of danger posed to the public by the dam’s instability. The university is currently searching for funding to repair the dam.
Sewell Park is located on the SWT campus on the banks of the San Marcos River, south of the University Drive bridge over the river and north of City Park. The portion of the river bank now closed to the public is between the dam and the University Drive bridge.
Summerfest, the community celebration of Independence Day, is scheduled July 3 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
