SWT advertising team qualifies for national tournament
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — A team of students from Southwest Texas State University has won the annual regional competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF).
Fifteen schools from four states (Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma) competed in the event recently in Odessa. SWT qualified along with 14 other schools from around the country to enter the national competition to be held in June in Washington, D.C.
Second, third and fourth places in the regional competition went to Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University.
The competition involved preparing an advertising and marketing campaign for a national client. This year’s client was Toyota.
The 19-member team is composed of students in marketing and mass communication at SWT. Faculty advisors are Mary Ann Stutts, professor of managment and marketing, and Sarah Plaster, instructor of mass communication.
SWTs AAF advertising teams have a history of success. This will mark the fifth time the SWT team has advanced to the national finals since 1990, when the team won the national title.
