SWT Day at the State Legislature
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The eyes of Texas will be upon Southwest Texas State University on Wednesday, March 3, as the university is recognized by the State Legislature for 100 years of commitment to education.
The celebration commemorates the day in 1899 when the legislation to create Southwest Texas State Normal School was introduced to the legislature. SWT has been observing its Centennial Celebration with events throughout the 1998-99 academic year.
Resolutions honoring the Centennial will be read in the House and
Senate in the morning. Then from noon to 1 p.m., SWTexans will provide fast-paced
entertainment in the rotunda. Alumnus and actor G.W. Bailey will emcee a program that will showcase the talents of SWT‘s multicultural student body. Scheduled performers include the Gospel Expression choir of African-American students, a mariachi band of Hispanic students, the Centennial Singers, the Strutters and Salsa del Rio, a Latino jazz group.
A Centennial display created by Bill Meek, art professor, will be on display
the entire week in the Capitol. The San Marcos and SWT community is invited and encouraged to attend this event.
