Group sings 100 years of SWT
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — A student vocal jazz group called the Centennial Singers has been formed at Southwest Texas State University to perform in honor of the school’s 100th anniversary celebration during the 1998-99 academic year.
The Centennial Singers will perform at several events on the SWT campus and are available to perform 15-, 20- and 30-minute programs at civic gatherings in San Marcos and other area cities. They will sing medleys of songs significant to the university commemorating its century of growth and success, along with some popular songs by accomplished SWT alumni.
Each of the 16 harmony singers was chosen for the special group by director John Paul Johnson, SWT music faculty member. Members of the group are Jeffery Botta, Sarajane Daily, J.J. Gonzalez, David Johnson, Matt Kendrick, Deanna Lindstrom, Mikael Lindstrom, Morris Nelms, Angie Nichols, Krissy Perkins, Lori Powell, Shawn Tuthill and Erin Walton.
The Centennial Singers will perform in an Oct. 18 concert that will also feature the University Chorale and the University Singers. The concert begins at 3 p.m. at the University Performing Arts and Conference Center.
