SWT student selected as AWP award winner
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Jennifer Corner of San Marcos, a student in the master of fine arts program in creative writing at Southwest Texas State University, was selected as a poetry winner in the 1998 Intro Journals Project sponsored by the Associated Writing Programs (AWP).
The Intro Journals Project is a literary competition for the discovery and publication of the best new works by students currently enrolled in the programs of AWP. Both graduates and undergraduates are eligible.
Corner’s winning entry, A Failed Sestina of Marriage, will appear in the fall or winter issues of one of the participating literary journals, which include Hayden’s Ferry Review, Mid-American Review, Puerto del Sol, Quarterly West and the New England Review.
Founded in 1967 by 15 writers representing 13 creative writing programs, the Associated Writing Programs has grown to include 16,000 individual writers, teachers and students and 280 college and university creative writing programs in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The mission of the AWP is to foster literary talent and achievement and to advance the teaching of the craft of writing and to serve the makers and readers of contemporary writing both within and beyond the academy.
