SWT faculty promotions, tenure announced at SWT

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Thirty-six faculty members have been promoted and 30 have been granted tenure at Southwest Texas State University.

The promotions and tenure actions were approved Friday by the Texas State University System Board of Regents. They will become effective Sept. 1.

Promoted from associate professor to professor (with academic department in parentheses) were Gregory Andrews (history), Victoria Bynum (history), Frederick Day (geography and planning), Carole Greer (art and design), Stephen Hager (music), Barbara Lyman (educational administration and psychological services), Mayur Mehta (computer information systems and quantitative methods), Fred Shelley (geography and planning), William Stone (criminal justice), David Wiley (health, physical education and recreation) and Paula Williamson (biology).

Promoted from assistant professor to associate professor were Michael Blanda (chemistry), Denise Blanchard-Boehm (geography and planning), Brock Brown (geography and planning), Elaine Eikner (accounting), Mark Erickson (music), Carey Michaels Fink (music), Douglas Forbes (sociology), Leticia Garza-Falcon (English), Terry Hull (political science), Timothy Hulsey (psychology) and Maureen Keeley (speech communication).

Also promoted from assistant professor to associate professor were Michal Lord (health, physical education and recreation), Elizabeth Makowski (history), Robert McLean (biology), Edward Mihalkanin (political science), Sandhya Rao (mass communication), Marianne Reese (educational administration and psychological services), F. Kent Reilly (anthropology), Virginia Resta (curriculum and instruction), David Shields (art and design), Linda Thomas (health information management) and John Tiefenbacher (geography and planning).

Promoted from instructor to assistant professor were Ian Davidson (music), MaryBeth Smith (music) and Rui Shu (philosophy).

Granted tenure were Michael Blanda (chemistry), Denise Blanchard-Boehm (geography and planning), Brock Brown (geography and planning), David Butler (geography and planning), Elaine Eikner (accounting), Mark Erickson (music), Douglas Forbes (sociology), John Garcia (educational administration and psychological services), Weizhen Gu (mathematics) and Carlos Gutierrez (physics).

Also granted tenure were Susan Hardwick (geography and planning), James Hudson (music), Timothy Hulsey (psychology), Maureen Keeley (speech communication), Michal Lord (health, physical education and recreation), N. Chinna Natesan (management and marketing), Nancy Ramos (curriculum and instruction), Sandhya Rao (mass communication), Marianne Reese (educational administration and psychological services) and F. Kent Reilly (anthropology).

Also granted tenure were Virginia Resta (curriculum and instruction), Cecilia Rodriguez-Castillo (political science), Fred Shelley (geography and planning), David Shields (art and design), Wayne Sorensen (health administration), David Stea (geography and planning), Cecilia Temponi (management and marketing), Linda Thomas (health information management), John Tiefenbacher (geography and planning) and Jose Trinidad (finance and economics).
