SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The American Advertising Federation team from Southwest Texas State University won second place, out of a field of 13 universities, in the annual District 10 National Student Advertising competition held recently in Waco.
SWT earned 376.9 points to take second place behind the University of Texas at Austin, which scored 384.7 points. Scores are based on both a plan book and an on-site presentation at the annual district conference.
Oklahoma City University placed third with a score of 328.7 points, and the University of Houston took fourth place with a score of 323.1 points. Other universities competing were the University of Oklahoma, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Stephen F. Austin State University, University of Texas-Pan American, Sam Houston State University, University of Texas at Arlington, Oklahoma State University, Ouachita Baptist University and West Texas A&M University.
Twenty SWT students were on the team, which developed a complete marketing and advertising campaign for their client, Hallmark Cards. Faculty advisors are Mary Ann Stutts, Ekatrina Walsh, Sarah Plaster, and Michael McBride.
This marks the 11th time SWT has won or placed in District 10 (which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and western Louisiana) since 1983, the year the university began competing in the NSAC.
