Chahin to be honored as Hispanic of the Year

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Jaime Chahin, associate vice president for human resources and university affairs at Southwest Texas State University, will be honored as one of Kenneth White Junior High School’s Hispanics of the Year and will receive the Hispanic Excellence Award at a ceremony March 27 at the school in Mission.

Selected by the student body as an exemplary example of an outstanding leader and role model, Chahin will be honored at the community. His picture will be added to the “Hall of Fame-Padrinos of KWJH” at the school.

Past honorees include former San Antonio Mayor and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros, music sensations La Mafia and Little Joe Hernandez, and football great Ty Detmer.

Chahin earned his bachelor’s degree in political science at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. He earned a master’s degree in administration and policy and his doctorate degree in education and supervision from the university of Michigan.

Prior to his current position, he served as senior policy analyst for the Texas Select Committee on Higher Education, as dean of student personnel services at Texas South most College in Brownsville and as assistant vice president for human resources development at SWT.
