A Message from the President

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:

The Texas State community has been affected by the recent apparent suicide of one of our students, Travis Green, whose body was found in a campus building earlier this week.

The university generally does not comment publicly on suicide cases out of respect for family members, but because of growing concerns about the manner of Travis’ death, I am taking this exceptional step.

The University Police Department’s preliminary investigation of the sudden death suggests that it is a suicide, pending a ruling by the medical examiner. In the days since Travis’ death, there has been no additional evidence that would lead investigators to conclude otherwise.

The Bobcat community continues to mourn Travis’ loss and we ask that you keep Travis and his family in your thoughts and prayers. The Counseling Center will continue to provide assistance to those affected by his death.

Through various meetings and correspondence, I have heard your concerns about safety. Because of those concerns, the University Police Department is increasing foot patrols by uniformed officers and security guards, and increasing the availability of the Bobcat Bobbies service. We also encourage members of the campus community to download the Bobcat Guardian app. We are committed to keeping the campus environment secure for everyone.

Sincerely,

Denise M. Trauth
President
