Attacca Quartet named first School of Music Ensemble-in-Residence

The Attacca Quartet will serve as the inaugural Ensemble-in-Residence for the School of Music at Texas State University during the 2016-2017 season.

The quartet will give performances, collaborate with Texas State’s world-class music faculty and provide a unique opportunity for students to work closely with an internationally touring ensemble.

The Attacca Quartet will present concerts on November 8 and April 4 in the Performing Arts Center on campus. The quartet will also rehearse and perform side-by-side with Texas State students for a chamber orchestra concert April 8. During both the November and April residencies, the quartet members will also coach student quartets, work with student composers writing for their instruments and meet with children in the community-outreach program Texas State String Project.

The Attacca Quartet has established a reputation as one of America's premier young performing ensembles. Its list of accomplishments includes first prize at the 7th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in 2011, Listeners’ Choice Award at the 2011 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the 2013 National Federation of Music Clubs Centennial Chamber Music Award, the Arthur Foote Award from the Harvard Musical Association and the Lotos Prize in the Arts. Previous engagements include a season as the Quartet in Residence for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The Attacca Quartet formed at the Juilliard School in 2003. Members Amy Schroeder and Keiko Tokunaga, violin, Nathan Schram, viola, and Andrew Yee, cello, made their professional debut in 2007 as part of the Artists International Winners Series in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.

The School of Music at Texas State is a vibrant musical community of more than 500 graduate and undergraduate music majors and more than 80 faculty. Its many learning and performing activities take place in six buildings on the San Marcos campus, including the Performing Arts Center.
