Texas State University Department of Counseling Leadership, Adult Education and School Psychology will host a hip-hop symposium Nov. 9 in the LBJ Student Center.
The event, “Remixing Higher Education: An interdisciplinary look at hip-hop in the academy,” will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The symposium will bring hip-hop scholars from New York, Illinois, Missouri and Texas who have researched the intersection between hip-hop and the academy within the fields of psychology, social work, film studies and education.
The day will feature a DJ, various works of art and several spoken-word artists. The symposium comes as a result of the department being awarded the Equity and Access Grant for fall 2012.
The event is open to the public, but seating is limited. Professors and administrators are encouraged to attend.
