Ting Liu, assistant professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State University-San Marcos, has been honored with the Lolas E. Halverson Motor Development Young Investigator Award from the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.

The award was presented to Liu during the 126th national convention of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance on April 1 in San Diego, Calif.

A national honor, the Lolas E. Halverson Motor Development Young Investigator Award is given in recognition of an outstanding individual for his/her contributions to research in the motor development field and scholarly effort to improve the quality of physical education for all. Honorees must demonstrate scholarship by being the primary contributor to a research study that makes a significant contribution to the field of motor development. The recipient makes a research presentation at the AAHPERD national convention the following year. The award is funded by donations to the Lolas E. Halverson Fund.

“The combination of her training, abilities, work ethic, dedication to the research process, and passion for advancing the field of motor development has resulted in high quality scholarship,” said Karen Meaney, a professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State.

“Evident in her recent dissertation, Effects of Strategy Use on Children’s Motor Performance, highlights Dr. Liu’s ability to conduct theoretically based research, contributing both to literature and providing relevant, practical applications for those in the field,” said Meaney.

Liu has worked in the field of motor development since 2000. Since then, she has published numerous book chapters, journal articles, and abstracts. Some of her most recent work can be found in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, Perceptual and Motor Skills, Applied Research in Coaching and Athletics Annual, Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology (Suppl.), among others.
