The Cancer Advocacy Movement for Colleges and Outreach Organization at Texas State University-San Marcos will kick off its schedule of events for 2010-11 with the inaugural Texas State Bra Night and Fashion Show on Oct. 13.

The event will be at the Alkek Teaching Theater on campus and will begin with a reception at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free with complimentary refreshments provided. Two door prizes--an iPad and a Dell laptop computer--will be given away during the event.

Texas State Bra Night is part of national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and begins a series of activities planned by Texas State CAMCO to promote cancer awareness and prevention on campus and in Central Texas.

More than 20 student organizations will take part in a cancer bra-decorating contest, to help raise awareness of breast cancer and other cancers as well. The decorated cancer bras will be modeled tastefully with jeans, and fashions from area stores also will be shown in a fashion show. Modeling begins at 7 p.m.

Sponsors of the event include the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Be the Match (the national marrow donor registry program), American Cancer Society, Texas Oncology, Texas State Office of Disabilities Services, Texas State FashioNation and CAMCOSO (the CAMCO student organization).

Other October events include a campus-wide “pink out” and a visit to campus by the Lone Star Circle of Life Bike Tour, in which riders are traveling the state promoting the need for lifesaving organ and marrow donations.

The bike tour will be in San Marcos Oct. 28, with riders arriving on campus at 1 p.m. They will be honored as well as people stricken with cancer, at George’s in the LBJ Student Center.

Texas State CAMCO also will collaborate with the Pink Heals organization in its “Pink Fire Truck” event in downtown San Marcos on Oct. 15. It also will take part in the Komen Race for the Cure, on Nov. 7 in Austin, and will sponsor a week-long marrow donor drive in late March on the Texas State campus.
