Mathematics, science faculty collaborative host San Antonio summit

The College and Career Readiness Initiative Mathematics Faculty Collaborative and Science Faculty Collaborative headquartered at Texas State University-San Marcos and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, respectively, will co-host a Mathematics and Science Summit in conjunction with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Sept. 23-24 at the San Antonio Omni Colonnade Hotel.

The event will be attended by approximately 300 faculty members from more than 125 Texas universities and community colleges and will feature presentations from 15 of the state’s leading mathematics and science education initiatives.

The Summit will involve a combination of general sessions, concurrent breakout sessions and facilitated group discussions focused on the topics of the newly adopted Texas College and Career Readiness Standards, teacher education, and educational reforms in mathematics and science. General sessions will feature presenters from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Education Agency, Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching and Science Teachers Association of Texas. Among the entities presenting breakout sessions are Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Initiative, Texas Regional P-16 Councils, Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching, Texas A&M Center for Mathematics and Science Education, and the University of Texas Charles A. Dana Center, to name a few.
