William Clay Patterson, past president of the Veteran’s Alliance, is now president of the Student Foundation at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Established in 1978 to strengthen the university by working with students, alumni and administrators in promoting Texas States’ positive image, the Student Foundation has been consistently comprised of student leaders who serve as ambassadors for the president at Texas State.

“To honest with you, when I applied for Student Foundation I wasn’t quite sure what it was about or how it was worked,” Patterson said. “A member had approached me and told me that this organization was something I should be a part of. He said because of the leadership I had shown in various other organizations and the support and love I showed for our university, Student Foundation was where I needed to be.”

Patterson said he feels positive about his upcoming semester as president.

“The organization is strong,” Patterson said. “We have 60 of the brightest, most talented young leaders on this campus. Leaders who have come from every back ground you can think of. We have student leaders from Hip Hop Congress, the Resident Hall Association, Paws Preview, the Greek community and the Associated Student Government to name a few. With a group as intelligent and diverse as this, I couldn’t ask to be working with a better group of students.”

As for goals Patterson hopes to accomplish over his term, Patterson said that the Student Foundation’s main mission is to continue serving President Denise Trauth in showcasing Texas State as a premiere institution.

“I hope to increase the interaction between students, alumni and the administration of our university,” Patterson said. “We are all Bobcats, and by working together we can shine together.”
