San Marcos hosts Texas College & University Facilities Conference

The Texas College and University Facilities Conference will be co-hosted by Texas State University-San Marcos and the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio Jan. 7-9.

The conference, themed “Know Your Space,” will he held at the new San Marcos Convention Center and adjacent Embassy Suites Hotel. The event is organized in full cooperation with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The conference programming will feature educational tracks, workshops and networking opportunities. Keynote speakers include Lowell Catlett, a Regent’s Professor at New Mexico State University and dean of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. Known as a futurist with insightful knowledge of technologies and their implications on the way we will live and work, Catlett’s upbeat presentations are popular among corporate and association audiences both nationally and internationally. His presentations are thought- provoking and entertaining. The other keynote speaker is Wright Lassiter, chancellor of the Dallas Community College District and Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Management at Dallas Baptist University. He hold a honorary doctor of humanities degree from that institution. In 1995, he was elected to the Indiana University Academy of Alumni Fellows by the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, and he also served a six-year term on the board of advisors for the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University. He currently serves on the advisory board for the Center of Excellence in Science and Mathematics at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

This conference is a continuation of the biennial conferences previously hosted by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). It provides an opportunity to share experiences and information among peers, gain insight relating to facilities planning, design and construction and earn continuing education credit. Pre-conference workshop topics include Construction Cost Control, BIM, Roof Asset Management, and LEED. In addition, the THECB will be offering hands-on ICPS training.
